# What is the this email about "Varnish" about and what if I don't update?

So I just got the following email about making a change to my “Varnish” in my server. I have a few questions. I have had big trouble recently after updating to 6.7 that I have to make changes in “Incognito mode” and hit “Clear All Cache” after trying to make a change in the backend.
1. Is this what this file change is fixing?
2. Is the fix for a local instance or is it a “Server Level” change affecting all my installs of Shopware? ( I want to know if I can do it first in my “Staging Site” to test it. Thats why I am asking.
3. Will this be fixed in future installs or does everyone who know installs Shopware need to do this?

Only you can know whether Varnish is installed on your server and whether you are using it for Shopware. Varnish operates on the server level, but each Shopware configuration — including staging — can define whether Varnish should be used or not.

Thanks Max\_Shop. Varnish is being actively used on my server.
So is this a server level change or a shop level change? This is the main question I would now need an answer to.
I just want to be sure that if I make the change it does not break my 6.7.4.0 shop which has active customers. I usually check these changes out in Staging but that is not possible if it is installed server wide. I am sure you know what I mean.

Just got off the chat with my cloud provider. And they said the configuration that I pointed to was to change Varnish and not only the application.
Also they said that they are not able to do this for me.
So now the question I have is:
Does updating Shopware fix this problem automatically? If so, how?
Or do I have to leave server providers due to this issue (which is really hard to do).

You need to adjust the Varnish configuration. If your hosting provider doesn’t apply the change for you, you’ll likely have to update the configuration yourself. As you already mentioned, the required adjustments are documented in the GitHub repository under varnish-shopware/rootfs/etc/varnish. This is unrelated to the Shopware installation itself, so updating Shopware will not resolve the issue.
